Drawings and paintings by David Lay. Two very different aspects of the artist’s work usually exhibited separately shown here together for the first time.
Runes.
Paintings in Acrylic. Marks initially made by others for disparate reasons, Lifted out of context, re-examined and remarked.
Sea and landscapes.
Monochrome drawings. Charcoal and chalk on paper. Marks made to explore the textures of sea and landscape.
About the artist.
David was for rather too long, a designer and scenic artist in theatre running the gamut from seaside rep to the National theatre and back again. He began showing his own work about ten years ago. He has exhibited widely both in London and Kent. Since moving to Folkestone he has shown at The Chimera, The Johnny Cotter Gallery and, Frank Hirshfield’s Galerie d’Art.
David is a director and co- founder with Maryanne Traylen of Pavement Pounders Community Interest Company.

Space Gallery Folkestone is an independent Art Gallery and project/events space in the heart of Folkestone’s Creative Quarter and can be found at 7 The Old High Street (at the top of the hill).

Folkestone is home to the “Folkestone Artworks”, the new name for the collection of works originally commissioned by The Creative Foundation for the Folkestone Triennial that are now on permanent display in public spaces in the town. The collection can be enjoyed by residents and visitors of any age, free of charge, all year round. The Creative Foundation are currently planning the next Triennial in 2014 – further details will be released on the Creative Foundation website.
